How to Write a Short Story

 How to write a story?

I am storyteller and involved into storytelling for last 6 years. I am not going to surf and find answers to write this blog, but I am going to share my experiences and strategies I apply to write any story. 

Friends, first understand the types of stories:

1. Imaginary or fiction: The stories which are not real, but are based on your imagination or observation. Such stories are created by you. In such stories, the characters are created and are totally imaginary which may or may not be similar to the real world. For example super heroes stories, etc are fiction where characters are not related to real world. It could also be fictional love stories, thriller, any story which created by your imagination.  

2. Real or non fiction: Such stories are real which you write based on your real life experiences or observation. 

A story could be a fiction or non-fiction, but the essence is how its being told or expressed. Every story has few constant elements:

a. characters

b. an issue or problems, around which the characters revolve

c. Climax

d. message (optional)

The story that you will write will be based primarily on these four elements. 

Process

Dear friends, now you might think that climax comes in the end, so while writing a story you would also think about it at the end. But, that is not the case.

When you write a story, you need to think the endings or climax you are looking for while creating a story. Its the goal  where you want to take your story. There could be more than one end possible, but you need to keep the climax in your mind.

When you know your climax, you need a path to reach to the climax. This path is the problem or issue of the story. Every story has a subject or an issue based on which you create it. 

examples of issues:

a. one sided love of the girl

b. a girl stuck in rainy weather

c. a child preparing for exams

a problem could be anything, it could be positive or negative. After deciding on the climax and issue, now design the characters. Now define all the characters you need in the story. There would one or two protagonist who will be responsible for driving the story.

So define your characters and the location of the story. 

Now you know the recipe of writing the story, do write and create a wonderful story.
